Description: - A 19th century continental emerald and diamond lizard brooch, circa 1895. The brooch is crafted in silver to the front and backed in rose gold; with rose cut emerald eyes, an engraved head, body, and tail that is highlighted with graduated rose-cut diamonds. The brooch is stamped to the C clasp with an indistinct mark.

The brooch has been tested as silver, and backed in 9ct gold.

In Victorian times the lizard symbolised ‘wedded bliss’ and was given as a special wedding or anniversary gift.

Period: - Circa 1895.

Engraving: - None.

Measurement: - 5.5cm (length) x 1.8cm (height) x 1.2cm (depth).

Weight: - 10.1 grams. 

Condition: - The pin, and clasp both work perfectly. The diamonds, & emeralds are all hand-cut, and in good condition. The tail has been lightly drilled to allow a safety chain to be attached if desired. Gemstone treatment is unknown.
