Description: - An early 20th century swallow brooch. The bird brooch is in the form of a swallow, with realistically engraved feathers, green enamel decoration, wings and eye set with rose-cut diamonds, and holding a small pearl in its beak. During the 19th and early part of the 20th century the swallow symbolised ‘faithfulness’ and was given as a gift between lovers.

As was common for the period the brooch is unhallmarked, and has been tested and confirmed to be 18 carat gold fineness.

Period: - Circa 1900s.

Engraving: - None.

Measurement: - 4.15cm (length between wings) x 3.9cm (beak to tail feathers) x 1.2cm (depth).

Weight: - 16.3 grams.

Condition: - The pin, and clasp both work well with a firm closure.  The diamonds; and single pearl are in good condition. Gemstone treatment is unknown. The pearl has been untested for origin.
